Under argon atmosphere bromo-acetyl bromide (2.67 mL, 30.66 mmol) dissolved in DCM (15 mL) was added within 15 min to a mixture of 2,4-dinitro-phenol (5.13 g, 27.88 mmol) and pyridine (2.92 mL, 36.24 mmol) in DCM (40 mL) at 0° C. After 1 h at RT, aqueous citric acid solution (10%, 30 mL) was added to the reaction mixture. The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting residue recrystallized from diethyl ether (75 mL) to afford the title compound.
