Procedure
A solution of 4-chloro-5-(1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl)-2-thiophenecarboxylic acid (121 mg, 0.5 mmol) and N-chlorosuccinimide (67 mg, 0.5 mmol) in THF (5 mL) was stirred in a sealed tube at 70° C. After 4 hrs, the solution was concentrated and partitioned between DCM and H2O. The aqueous layer was extracted several times with DCM. The organic fractions were combined, concentrated and azeotropically dried with toluene to give the title compound as a brown oil (136 mg, 98%): LC-MS (ES) m/z=278 (M+H)+.
