Procedure

3-Bromo-5-[4-(methylsulfonyl)phenoxy]phenol (4.86 g, 14.2 mmol) synthesized in Example (1c) was dissolved in toluene (100 mL), and (R)-(−)-1-methoxy-2-propanol (1.77 mL, 18.1 mmol) and triphenylphosphine (4.10 g, 15.6 mmol) were added, followed by cooling to 0° C. Under nitrogen atmosphere, diethyl azodicarboxylate (40% toluene solution, 7.75 mL, 17.1 mmol) was added dropwise over 10 minutes and stirring was carried out at 0° C. for 30 minutes, followed by raising the temperature naturally and stirring at room temperature overnight. Water (100 mL) and ethyl acetate (100 mL) were added, and the solution was separated. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, and subsequently dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure, and the resulting residue was purified using silica gel column chromatography (elution solvent: ethyl acetate/hexane=20%-40%) to afford the desired compound (5.06 g, yield 86%) as a pale yellow oil.
