6-(4-Fluoro-2-methoxyphenyl)-5-(2-methoxycarbonylmethylphenoxymethyl)-2,2,4-trimethyl-1,2-dihydroquinoline (Compound No. 14-1, 84.0 mg, 0.18 mmol) was dissolved in methanol (2 mL)—tetrahydrofuran mL) and 1N aqueous NaOH solution (0.56 mL) was added thereto and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. After ethyl acetate (100 mL) was added to the reaction mixture, the whole was washed with 0.01N aqueous HCl solution (100 mL) and saturated brine (50 mL) successively, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, and then the solvent was removed under reduced pressure. The obtained residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane-ethyl acetate) to give the titled compound (74.1 mg) as a colorless solid. (Yield 89%)
