Procedure

(350 mg, 1.17 mmol) 1-(5-Bromo-pyrimidin-2-yl)-3-ethyl-4,4-dimethyl-imidazolidin-2-one (Example 143, step 2) was dissolved in dioxane (20 ml) and sodium iodide (700 mg, 4.68 mmol, 4 equiv.), copper(I) iodide (21 mg, 0.234 mmol, 0.2 equiv.) and trans-N,N′-dimethylcyclohexane-1,2-diamine (33 mg, 37 μl, 0.234 mmol, 0.2 equiv.) were added. The mixture was stirred for 16 hours at 100° C. The reaction mixture was cooled and extracted with saturated NaHCO3 solution and two times ethyl acetate. The organic layers were extracted with brine, dried over sodium sulfate and evaporated to dryness. The desired 1-(5-iodo-pyrimidin-2-yl)-3-ethyl-4,4-dimethyl-imidazolidin-2-one (350 mg, 86% yield) was obtained as a brown solid, MS: m/e=347.0 (M+H+) and was used without further purification in the next step.
