Procedure
A mixture of 1-ethyl-4-piperidone methiodide (D9, 27 g), trans-4-ethoxycyclohexylamine (D65, 8.16 g, 0.065 mol), potassium carbonate (13.5 g), water (100 mL), and ethanol (200 mL) was heated for 3 hours at 80° C., then cooled overnight. The mixture was partitioned with aqueous sodium bicarbonate and dichloromethane. The dichloromethane layer was separated, washed with brine and solvent removed to give the title compound as an amber coloured oil (13.2 g).
