Procedure

To a solution of 2-(4-bromo-2-fluorophenylamino)-1-methyl-6-oxo-1,6-dihydropyridine-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester in MeOH (1.5 mL) was added 1 M NaOH (800 uL, 0.902 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 4 hours and then at room temperature for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with H2O, acidified with 2 M HCl until the pH was 1-2, and then diluted with EtOAc. The organic layer was separated and washed with saturated NaCl, dried (Na2SO4), and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield 0.053 g (97%) desired product as a pale orange solid. MS ESI (+) m/z 341, 343 (M+, Br pattern) detected; 1H NMR (400 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 13.08 (s, 1H), 10.0 (s, 1H), 7.87 (d, 1H), 7.65 (d, 1H), 7.35 (d, 1H), 6.95 (t, 1H), 6.16 (d, 1H), 3.19 (s, 3H).
