A solution of 1.7 g of 11b and 3 ml of triethyl amine in 20 ml of diethyl ether was treated at 0° C. with 1.5 ml of methanesulfonyl chloride. The mixture was stirred for an additional 30 min and then diluted with 35 ml of water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The combined organic layers were washed with 1M aq. K2CO3 solution and water, dried and concentrated, to provide 2.45 of 11c as a colorless oil; Rf 0.45 (heptane/ethyl acetate 1/1).
