2-(3-Methoxyphenyl) cyclohexanone (30g), pyrrolidine (20g) and 98 to 100% formic acid (20g) were heated under reflux at 130° to 140° C for 18 hours. The cooled mixture was poured into dilute hydrochloric acid, washed with ether, basified and ether extracted. The dried extract was evaporated to give cis-2-(3-methoxyphenyl)-1-pyrrolidinocyclohexane (19g) as a colourless oil. A sample distilled at 150° to 154° C/1 mm gave a hydrochloride m.p. 145° to 147° C.
