After stirring 1 hr. in the dark, the reaction mixture was partitioned between EtOAc (100 ml) and water (100 ml). The organic layer was washed with 1N NaOH (100 ml), water (100 ml) and brine (50 ml). Drying (MgSO4) and concentration afforded 1.25 g (99%) of 2,3-dimethyl-6-chloroaniline as a deep red liquid.
