Procedure
A solution of 1.5 g of 2(R)-[1(S)-(tertbutoxycarbonyl)-4-methyl-3-pentenyl]-2′-isobutyl-2′-(methanesulphonyl)-4-methylvalerohydrazide, 0.51 g of triethylamine and 0.93 g trimethylsilyl triflate in 20 ml of 1,4-dioxane was heated at reflux under a nitrogen atmosphere for 4 hours. The mixture was cooled and the solvent was evaporated. The residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed with 2M aqueous hydrochloric acid, water and brine. The ethyl acetate phase was then dried over anhydrous magnesium sulphate and the solvent was evaporated to give 1.31 g of 2(R)-[1(S)-(carboxy)-4-methyl-3-pentenyl]-2′-isobutyl-2′-(methanesulphonyl)-4-methylvalerohydrazide in the form of a yellow foam.
