A mixture of 7 g of 3-(o-aminobenzyl)-5-methylmercapto-1,2,4-triazole, 5.26 g of 1,1'-carbonyldiimidazole and 179 ml of methylene chloride is heated at reflux overnight. Most of the solvent is removed in vacuo, the solids are filtered and washed with small amount of methylene chloride to give 2-methylmercapto-11H-1,2,4-triazolo[2,3-c][1,3]benzodiazepine-5(6H)-one, m.p. 250°-252° (intermediate 5/b).
