5.7 g of lithium aluminium hydride was dispersed in 50 mL of THF. 29.5 g of methyl trans-4-vinylcyclohexane carboxylate was dissolved in 75 mL of THF, which was added dropwise to the above solution at 15 to 16° C. for 40 minutes. The solution was further stirred at 10 to 20° C. for 30 minutes, and then water was slowly added thereto. About 70 mL of 10% hydrochloric acid was added. While washing and rinsing with hexane, a sludge-like insoluble matter was removed by a decanter. Then, the obtained organic phase was washed with 10% hydrochloric acid, saturated sodium bicarbonate water, and saturated saline, in this order. The resultant product was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, and concentrated, to obtain 26 g of (trans-4-vinylcyclohexyl)methanol.
