Tetrakis(triphenylphosphine)palladium(0) (1.11 g, 0.962 mmol) was added to a solution of benzyl (1R)-1-{[(2-bromoprop-2-enyl)(2,4-dimethoxybenzyl)amino]carbonyl}but-3-enylcarbamate (2.49 g, 4.81 mmol), phenylboronic acid (0.65 g, 5.29 mmol) and sodium carbonate (2M in water; 4.81 mL, 9.63 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (54 mL) and water (20 mL), and the mixture heated to 60° C. After 1 h, the mixture was allowed to cool to ambient temperature and extracted with dichloromethane (3×). The combined organic extracts were washed with saturated brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, filtered and concentrated. Purification by silica gel chromatography (5% ethyl acetate/hexanes→30% ethyl acetate/hexanes) gave the title compound (2.02 g). MS 515 (M+1).
