A solution of the above 3-{2-ethyl-4-[5-(2-ethyl-6-methyl-pyridin-4-yl)-[1,2,4]oxadiazol-3-yl]-6-methyl-phenyl}-propionic acid tert. butyl ester in 6 N aq. HCl (10 mL) is stirred at 65° C. for 18 h. The solvent is evaporated and the residue is suspended in MeCN. The solid material is collected, washed with additional MeCN and dried under high vacuum to give 3-{2-ethyl-4-[5-(2-ethyl-6-methyl-pyridin-4-yl)-[1,2,4]oxadiazol-3-yl]-6-methyl-phenyl}-propionic acid (135 mg) as a white powder; LC-MS: tR=0.86 min, [M+1]+=380.13.
