{trans-4-[2-(4-Thieno[3,2-c]pyridin-4-yl-piperazin-1-yl)-ethyl]-cyclohexyl}-carbamic acid tert-butyl ester (1.2 g, 3 mmol) was treated with 1 N HCl in EtOAc (40 ml, 40 mmol) and MeOH (0.74 ml) and the resulting mixture was stirred 4 h at room temperature. A white precipitate was formed that was collected by filtration and washed with EtOAc. The solid was dried over night under high vacuum to yield trans-4-[2-(4-thieno[3,2-c]pyridin-4-yl-piperazin-1-yl)-ethyl]-cyclohexylamine trihydrochloride as a white powder (1.2 g, 94%), MS (ISP) m/z=345.1 [(M+H)+].
