Procedure
To a solution of t-butyl 4-hydroxypiperidine-1-carboxylate (0.43 g, 3.3 mmol) and triphenylphosphine (1.05 g, 4.0 mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (15 mL) at 0° C. was added dropwise diethyl azodicarboxylate (0.63 mL, 4.0 mmol). After 5 minutes ethyl 1H-1,2,3-triazole-4-carboxylate (0.43 g, 3.0 mmol, prepared according to D. R. Buckle, C. J. M. Rockell, J. Chem. Soc., Perkin Transaction 1 1982, 2, 627-630) was added in tetrahydrofuran (5 mL). The reaction mixture was stirred overnight at room temperature. The reaction mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue was purified by medium pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) using 15 to 40% ethyl acetate in hexanes as eluant to afford 0.42 g of the title compound as an oil.
