A mixture of 2-(3-amino-phenyl)-3,3-dimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinoline-6-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (745 mg, 2.3 mmol), benzoic acid (337 mg, 2.76 mmol) and o-(7-azabenzotriazol-1-yl)-N,N,N′,N′-tetramethyluronium hexafluorophosphate (1.31 g, 3.45 mmol) in dichloromethane (10 mL) and triethyl-amine (0.8 mL, 5.75 mmol) was stirred at 25° C. for 12 h. Then the reaction mixture was extracted with dichloromethane (2×100 mL), washed with water, dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate and concentrated in vacuo to afford 2-(3-benzoylamino-phenyl)-3,3-dimethyl-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-quinoline-6-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (984 mg, 100%) as a brown oil which was used for next step without further purification: LC/MS m/e calcd for C27H28N2O3 (M+H)+: 429.54, observed: 429.1.
