Procedure
To a stirred solution containing 23.5 g (0.1 mole) of the aniline prepared in (b) above and 10.1 g (0.1 mole) of triethylamine in 150 ml of tetrahydrofuran was added dropwise over 5 minutes 11.9 g (0.1 mole) of 1-methylcyclopropylcarboxylic chloride. This addition was exothermic to 55° C. The mixture was refluxed for 1 hour, poured into ice water and filtered. The filter cake was recrystallized from hexane to give 25 g (79%) of product as a colorless crystalline solid, m.p. 103°-105° C.
