Procedure
1,3,4,6 tetraacetyl D-glucose (W. E. Dick, Carbohyd. Res., 21, 255-268 (1972)) is dissolved in CH2Cl2 to make a 0.1M solution. 6 eqivalents of pyridine and 3 equivalents of 4-azidobutyryl chloride (S. Kusumoto et. al., Bull. Chem. Soc. Jpn., 59, 1289-1298 (1986)) are added. After several hours, the reaction is poured into saturated NaHCO3, extracted with CH2Cl2, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated. The residue is purified by flash chromatography to give the title compound.
