To 2-amino-5,6-difluoroindan-1-one (Preparation 78) (165 mg, 0.90 mmol) in saturated NaHCO3 (15 mL) was added benzyl chloroformate (0.15 mL, 1.08 mmol). The reaction mixture was stirred at rt for 1 h. The mixture was extracted with EtOAc (25 mL) and the organic phase washed with water (20 mL), brine (20 mL) and dried (MgSO4). Solvent was removed in vacuo and the residue purified by column chromatography (MeOH:DCM 1:99) to give the title compound: RT=3.50 min; m/z (ES+)=318.1 [M+H]+.
