Procedure
To a solution of compound 15 (1.65 g, 3.25 mmol) in benzene (300 mL) at 80° C. was added a solution of AIBN (105 mg, 20% mol) and tri(n-butyl)tin hydride (0.86 mL, 3.25 mmol) in benzene (20 mL) over a 2 hour period. The mixture was heated at reflux for 48 h. After evaporation of the solvent, the residue was purified via flash chromatography on silica gel to give a white solid as the product (16) (150 mg, 12%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 7.66 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.41 (d, J=8.4 Hz, 2H), 7.0-6.9 (m, 4H), 5.25 (dd, J=3.3 Hz, 2H), 3.14 (dd, J=4.5, 16.8 Hz, 2H), 2.58 (d, J=16 Hz, 2H).
