Procedure
To a solution of 2-(5-amino-4-bromo-2-chloro-phenyl)-malonic acid diethyl ester (1.25 g, 3.43 mmol) in dioxane (20 ml) and water (2 ml) was added potassium carbonate (1.42 g, 10.28 mmol), PdCl2(dppf) (0.28 g, 0.342 mmol) and trimethyl boroxine (0501 ml, 3.42 mmol). The mixture was stirred at 110° C. for 18 hours, then cooled to room temperature and filtered. The filtrate was concentrated to dryness under reduced pressure. Purification of the crude product by flash chromatography (hexanes:EtOAc 8:2) gave 0.270 g (71%) of 2-(5-amino-2-chloro-4-methyl-phenyl)-malonic acid diethyl ester as a yellow oil.
