2-Isopropylamino-6-methyl-pyrimidine-4-carbonitrile (2.8 g, 16.0 mmol) is added to a suspension of NaHCO3 (4.71 g, 56.1 mmol) and hydroxylamine hydrochloride (3.34 g, 48.1 mmol) in MeOH (20 mL). The reaction mixture is stirred at rt for 1 day and is filtered and evaporated. The residue is dissolved in DCM, washed with water followed by brine and dried to give N-hydroxy-2-isopropylamino-6-methyl-pyrimidine-4-carboxamidine as a yellow oil (1.38 g); LC-MS: tR=0.55; [M+H]+=209.96.
