Procedure

To a solution of (S)-3-[4-(spiro[5.5]undec-2-en-2-ylmethoxy)-phenyl]-hex-4-ynoic acid methyl ester (0.82 g) obtained in Step 8 in a mixed solvent of tetrahydrofuran (4 mL)-methanol (4 mL) was added 2N aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (2 mL), followed by stirring the reaction mixture at room temperature for 14 hours. Then, after addition of 1N aqueous hydrochloric acid solution, the reaction mixture was extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic layer was washed with saturated brine, dried and concentrated. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel (ethyl acetate:hexane (volume ratio)=1:1) to give (S)-3-[4-(spiro[5.5]undec-2-en-2-ylmethoxy)-phenyl]-hex-4-ynoic acid (0.77 g) as the desired compound.
