2.6 g. of 1-chloro-3-p-biphenylyl-3-butanol (obtainable from p-biphenylylmagnesium bromide and 1-chloro-3-buranone) are dissolved in 20 ml. of DMF, 3 g. of anhydrous potassium acetate are added and the mixture is stirred for 3 hours at 60°. After standard working up, 1-acetoxy-3-p-biphenylyl-3-butanol is obtained.
