(2S,4R)-1-t-Butoxycarbonyl-2-[(E and Z)-5-carboxy-5-methyl-1-hexenyl]-4-(4-chlorophenylsulfonylamino)pyrrolidine obtained in Example 20(1) was dissolved in 75% aqueous trifluoroacetic acid (8 ml) and the solution was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. The solvent was evaporated in vacuo to give (2S,4R)-2-[(E and Z)-5-carboxy-5-methyl-1-hexenyl]-4-(4-chlorophenylsulfonylamino)pyrrolidine trifluoroacetate as an oil.
