Procedure
A solution of 10.0 g (0.0908 mol) of 1-octyne, 60 ml of anhydrous toluene, 230 mg of azobisisobutylonitrile (AIBN), and 25 ml (0.0943 mol) of tri-n-butyltin hydride is refluxed under an argon atmosphere for 3 hours. The reaction mixture is cooled to ambient temperature and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting yellow liquid is distilled (bulb to bulb) to give 36.29 (99%) of the stannyl octene as a pale yellow liquid.
