Procedure

4-(Methoxymethyloxy)benzothiophene-2-carboxylic acid (7 g) was dissolved in tetrahydrofuran (100 ml) and CDI (7.3 g) and acetohydrazine (2.4 g) was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 3 hr. The precipitated crystals were collected by filtration to give the title compound (3.9 g).
