Procedure

To a solution of methyl 3-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxylate (5.3 g) synthesized above in dimethylformamide (70 mL) was added sodium hydride (1.9 g, 60% in oil) at 0° C., and the mixture was stirred for 10 min. 2-Chloro-5-trifluoromethylpyridine (7.5 g) was added, and the mixture was stirred at room temperature overnight. Aqueous ammonium chloride solution was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was extracted with diethyl ether. The extract was washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography (ethyl acetate:hexane=1:10, volume ratio) to give the title object compound (3.3 g, 31%) as a pale-yellow solid.
