Methyl 3-(2-(naphthalen-1-yl)acetamido)thiophene-2-carboxylate (210 mg, 0.645 mmol) was dissolved in THF/H2O (2.5 mL, 4/1, v/v). Sodium hydroxide (129 mg, 3.22 mmol) was added and the reaction mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 20 h. The resulting solution was acidified with 10% aqueous HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate. The organic phase was separated, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated under vacuum to give 3-(2-(naphthalen-1-yl)acetamido)thiophene-2-carboxylic acid. Retention time=1.962 min, method [1], MS (ESI) 312.1 (M+H).
