Procedure

The product from Step B (0.44 g, 1.05 mol) was dissolved in THF (20 mL) and a solution of tetrabutylammonium fluoride in THF (1 M, 2.1 mL, 2.1 mmol) was added; this mixture was stirred for 2 h at room temperature. A saturated aqueous solution of sodium bicarbonate (100 mL) was added and the mixture was saturated with sodium chloride and extracted with ethyl acetate (2×100 mL). The combined extracts were dried (MgSO4) and evaporated to give a yellow oil (0.47 g) which was purified by chromatography (silica gel, gradient, ethyl acetate; 5% methanol in ethyl acetate; 10% methanol in ethyl acetate) to give a colorless oil (0.30 g, 94%): LC/MS (+APCI) m/z 306.
