A salt of melamine and tartaric acid was prepared by mixing an aqueous solution containing two molecular parts of melamine hydrochloride with an aqueous solution containing one molecular part of disodium tartrate. The precipitate which was formed was washed with water and dried to constant weight in a vacuum oven at 80° C. The dried precipitate was found by analysis to comprise melamine tartrate.
