The title compound was prepared by starting with 3-[4-[4-(4-fluorobenzoyl)piperidin-1-yl]butyl]thieno[3,4-d]pyrimidine-2,4-dione. This material (2.91 g, 6.8 mmol) was reacted with methyl acrylate as described in Example 1 using DMF as the solvent to produce 2.26 g (64.6%) of methyl 3-[3-[4-[4-(4-fluorobenzoyl)piperidin-1-yl]butyl]-2,4-dioxothieno[3,4-d]pyrimidin-1-yl]propanoate as a creamed-colored solid after trituration with ether/hexane, mp 102.5°-103.5° C.
