A mixture of 2-(4-octyloxy-phenyl)-morpholine (1.04 g; 3.6 mmol), diethyl (3-bromopropyl)phosphonate (0.82 mL; 4.3 mmol), NaI (0.11 g; 0.7 mmol), and K2CO3 (0.99 g; 7.1 mmol) in CH3CN (10 mL) was heated under reflux for 2 hours. After cooling to RT the mixture was partitioned between 5% aqueous NaHCO3 solution and Et2O. The organic layer was dried (Na2SO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography (SiO2, EtOAc:MeOH 90:10) to afford {2-[2-(4-octyloxy-phenyl)-morpholin-4-yl]-propyl}-phosphonic acid diethyl ester (1.13 g).
