To a mixture of 1-(7-methoxy-3,4-dihydro-naphthalen-2-yl)-pyrrolidine (320 g, 1.4 mol) in MeCN (1000 mL) was added BnBr (263 g, 1.54 mol) dropwise at room temperature and stirred for 1 h. Then the solvent was evaporated in vacuo to give crude 1-(1-benzyl-7-methoxy-3,4-dihydro-1H-naphthalen-2-ylidene)-pyrrolidinium bromide which was directly used for next step.
