Procedure
To a solution of allyl 2,3-dimethyl-1H-indole-5-carboxylate (1.0 g, 4.4 mmol, 1 equiv) and (S)-methyl 2-(3-(bromomethyl)phenoxy)propanoate (1.30 g, 4.84 mmol, 1.1 equiv) in anhydrous DMF (30 mL) under argon atmosphere was added sodium hydride (211 mg, 8.8 mmol, 2 equiv) in small portions. The mixture was stirred 2 h at room temperature. The reaction mixture was then quenched slowly with a solution of HCl 0.5 N. The residue was dissolved in AcOEt, washed with a saturated NaHCO3 solution and brine, dried over MgSO4. The crude was purified by flash chromatography (AcOEt/Hexane 0->60%) to afford the title compound.
