A mixture of tert-butyl 4-((methylsulfonyl)oxy)piperidine-1-carboxylate (1.34 g, 4.79 mmol), 3-(trifluoromethoxy)benzenethiol (1.12 g, 5.75 mmol) and potassium carbonate (1.99 g, 14.4 mmol) in N,N-dimethylformamide (50 mL) at 90° C. for 20 hours. The mixture was poured into water (200 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (200 mL). The organic layer was washed with water (200 mL) and dried over sodium sulfate. After removal of the solvent, the residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel eluting with n-hexane/ethyl acetate (20:1) to give 1.34 g (74%) of the title compound as colorless oil.
