A solution of 2-chloromethyl-5,8-dimethyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrazine (1.351 g, 6.87 mmol) and triphenylphosphine (1.80 g, 6.87 mmol) in acetonitrile 150 mL was heated at reflux for 12 h. The solvents were removed in vacuo and the residue slurried in ether, filtered and dried to yield (5,8-Dimethyl-[1,2,4]triazolo[1,5-a]pyrazin-2-ylmethyl)-triphenyl-phosphonium, chloride as an off white solid (2.412 g, 74.9%).
