A 250 mL round bottom flask was charged with tert-butyl (2-hydroxy-1-(1,4-dioxaspiro[4.5]decan-8-yl)ethyl)carbamate (1.5 g, 4.98 mmol), prepared in the previous step, and tetrahydrofuran (100 mL). The mixture was cooled to 0° C. and potassium tert-butoxide (670 mg, 5.97 mmol) was added. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 2 h. The mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate and washed with saturated aqueous ammonium chloride. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to the product as a clear oil.
