Procedure
1 g (3.07 mmol) of 2-[3,5-dichloro-4-(dimethylamino)phenyl]-4,4,4-trifluoro-3-oxobutanenitrile is initially charged in 1.44 ml of POCl3 (15.3 mmol), and 0.43 ml (3.07 mmol) of triethylamine are added slowly. The reaction mixture is then stirred under reflux for 5 hours. After cooling, water is added carefully and the mixture is extracted repeatedly with dichloromethane. The separated organic phases are combined, dried over magnesium sulphate, filtered and concentrated. The residue is used without further purification for the next step.
