Procedure

A solution of 4,4′-difluorobenzophenone (3.00 g, 13.75 mmol) in a mixture of ethanol (10 ml) and pyridine (10 ml) was treated with methoxylamine hydrochloride (1.8 g, 21.7 mmol) and the resulting mixture was heated under reflux for 1 h. The cooled reaction mixture was diluted with ethyl acetate, washed successively with water, 1 N hydrochloric acid, saturated sodium bicarbonate and brine. After drying over anhydrous magnesium sulphate, evaporation of the solvent yielded 3.38 g (99% yield) of the title oxime ether as a clear syrup. 1HNMR 400 MHz (CDCl3) δ (ppm): 3.94 (3H, s, OCH3), 7.04 (2H, m, aromatics), 7.12 (2H, m, aromatics), 7.34 (2H, m, aromatics), 7.45 (2H, m, aromatics).
