To a solution of 3-(4-nitrophenoxy)-N-[4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]benzamide (6.75 g, 16.8 mmol) in methanol (20 mL)/tetrahydrofuran (10 mL) were added 10%-palladium carbon (2 g) and concentrated hydrochloric acid (1 mL), and the mixture was vigorously stirred under a hydrogen atmosphere at room temperature for 3 hr. The catalyst was filtered off through celite, the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure, and the obtained residue was triturated with diethyl ether to give the title compound (5.37 g, 86%) as a white solid.
