Procedure
A suspension of 350 mg of 7-chloro-4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carboxylic acid methyl ester (1.38 mmol) and 670 mg of sodium glycinate (6.9 mmol) in 13 mL of 2-methoxyethanol was heated at reflux temperature for 10 hours. The mixture was cooled acidified with 1N HCl and diluted with 10 mL water. The resultant white solid was collected on a glass fritted filter and washed twice with water and once with methanol. The solid was triturated with methanol to give 124 mg. MS: (+) m/z 298.03/300.02 (M+1, 35/37Cl)
