1-Cyanomethyl-5-oxo-pyrrolidine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester (1.1 g, 6.04 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH (30 ml) and hydrogenated over PtO2 (200 mg) at 20 psi for 24 hours. After filtration of the catalyst, the solvent was removed under vacuum and the residue triturated with iPrOH to afford the title compound as a white powder (580 mg, 62% yield).
