Procedure

15.6 g of 4-methylthiazole was dissolved in 50 ml of anhydrous acetone. The mixture was added with 21 g of bromoacetic acid, stirred for 3 d, filtered to obtain a solid, and a white solid was then obtained by recrystallization from ethanol, and dried to obtain 26 g product with a yield of 72%, mP=240.6-241.6° C.
