Procedure
Cysteamine (commercial) (900 mg, 11.67 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of triphenylmethanol (commercial) (3.037 g, 11.67 mmol) in TFA (10 ml) and the mixture stirred at RT for 3 hours. The mixture was then concentrated under reduced pressure and the residue partitioned between DCM (20 mL) and water (20 mL). The mixture was basified by the slow addition of solid K2CO3. The aqueous phase was extracted with DCM (2×20 mL), the combined organic phases passed through a hydrophobic frit and the solvent evaporated under reduced pressure. The material was used without further purification.
