To an ice-cold solution of NaH (40% oil dispersion, 231 mg) in THF (10 ml) was added (4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)methanol (815 mg) at 0° C. The reaction mixture was stirred at the same temperature for 10 min followed by the addition of 4-chloropyridine 1-oxide (500 mg) at 0° C. The resulting reaction mixture was stirred for 1 h at 0° C. and then warmed to room temperature. After 2 h, the reaction mixture was poured into ice-water and extracted with DCM twice. The organic layer was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (300 mg) as a yellow solid.
