Procedure
To a stirred solution of ethyl 6-iodo-3-methylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridine-2-carboxylate (1.5 g) in a mixture of THF (10 ml) and water (10 ml) was added aqueous lithium hydroxide (381 mg), and the resulting mixture was stirred for 16 h at room temperature. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and partitioned between EtOAc and water. The organic layer was neutralized with 2 M HCl. The mixture was extracted with EtOAc, dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated in vacuo to give the title compound (1 g) as a yellow solid.
