To a stirred solution of N-(5-iodopyridin-2-yl)-4-methylbenzenesulfonamide (3 g) and 2-bromopentan-3-one (3.3 g) in THF (50 ml) was added N,N-diisopropylethylamine (5.6 ml) at 0° C., and the resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 16 h. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo, poured into saturated NaHCO3 solution and extracted with EtOAc. The extract was washed with brine, dried over Na2SO4, concentrated in vacuo and purified by silica gel column chromatography (hexane/EtOAc) to afford the title compound (1.6 g) as a yellow solid.
